Dausenau – in the Middle Ages

Dausenau is an established holiday resort on the river Lahn, between the health resorts of Bad Ems and Nassau. With its medieval heritage, Dausenau presents a picture which is unique in the whole region. First of all there is the largely preserved medieval town-wall, which snuggles, but imposingly, up to the river Lahn. Two out of the former seven turrets are still preserved, one of them the famous “Leaning Tower of Dausenau”. Other sights are the 1,000 year-old “court oak-tree” and the Gothic parish church of St. Kastor - one of the most interesting churches in the Lahn valley – which rises like a cathedral above the village. Dausenau further offers a late Gothic half-timbered town hall, built between 1432 and 1434 . The building is the second oldest of its kind in Germany. Furthermore, the famous “Wirtshaus an der Lahn” (Inn on the Lahn) is in Dausenau, too.
